Southern Wayne Student Still Missing Near North Topsail Beach

As of 5 p.m. on Friday, a 14-year-old Goldsboro boy who went missing on Thursday near North Topsail Beach has yet to be found.

Officials from the Coast Guard and local police resumed their search on Friday morning for 14-year-old Mainor Perez.

According to wral.com, two brothers, Yunior and Mainor Perez, were fishing in the New River Inlet, when Mainor was swept away. Witnesses reported that passengers in a nearby boat were able to pull Yunior into the boat.

Mainor is a student at Southern Wayne High School.

Yunior made it to shore and reported that his brother had been swept away. A search was initiated by the North Topsail Beach Police using a drone.

A helicopter and boat search for the missing boy has involved officials from the North Topsail Beach Fire and Rescue, the Coast Guard, and other agencies.
