Brad Peterson

July 15, 2024, 64, Goldsboro —

Brad Peterson of Goldsboro, North Carolina, passed away peacefully in his home on Monday, July 15, 2024 after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

He was born in Minot, North Dakota in 1960 to Joanne Engelund and Fay Peterson. The family moved to Goldsboro, NC where the family planted their roots. Brad had a passion for cars and people, and he worked as an automotive technician in dealerships as well as owning his own shop at his house. He was known for being one of the best Ford mechanics, but he always took on the challenge of working on any and every vehicle anyone brought to him.

In addition to loving cars and working on them, Brad loved the outdoors. He loved gardening, and would always plant sunflowers for his daughter, Lexi, as those are her favorite. He was always so proud to eat the food he grew. He loved kayaking on the river, hiking, camping, fishing, and hunting. He loved attending motocross races with his daughter, and he was one of her biggest supporters in all that she did – she truly was the love of his life, and everyone that knew him knew it. He was very artistic, and he loved to draw, paint, do woodworking, and build things of all kinds. He loved attending yard sales and auctions with his dad and dog, Pele. He was a lover of animals and was known to go around town with his dog in tow. He had friends from all over Virginia and North Carolina, and he always loved meeting new people and getting to know them. He loved to travel when he could. He would talk to just about anyone and everyone. He had a heart of gold and would always do whatever he could to help anyone he came across.

He is survived by his daughter, Alexis (Lexi) Park, of Virginia; his beloved sisters, Brenda Rose of Goldsboro, and Fawn Scott (and husband, Eric Sr.) of Goldsboro; his nephews, Eric Scott Jr. (and wife, Carissa, and baby Caroline on the way), Matt Scott (and fiancé, Malorie and son Luke), Martin Rose, Tony Grimes Jr. (and Mary Rae, and son, Beryl); his dogs, Pele and Lily, and many friends and loved ones that called him “Uncle Brad.”

Brad’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at W.A.T.C.H (especially Kelli Corbett, FNP), SMOC, Genesis Care, and UNC Hospitals for all of their care and compassion as Brad fought cancer. Also, a special thank you to some close friends that have been extremely loving over the years, especially Jim and Debbie Meeker, Parker and Sarah McDaniels (and their lovely daughters), and Lowell and Rita Rust. Thank you to his daughter’s family for always loving him and treating him like family as well – Amanda Greer, Jeff Greer, Morgan Greer (son, Jameson), Brian and Elaine Stewart, Lauren Stewart (son, Liam), Andrew Stewart (son, Colin), Kevin and Joanna Swata, Ryan Swata, and Margaret and John Park.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the W.A.T.C.H clinic (www.watchwayne.org), SMOC Cures for Colors (www.southeasterncancercare.org), or a local animal shelter.

The family is in the care of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro.
