Ila Mae West Sutton, 97, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, July 25, 2024. Born in Wayne County on April 16, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Eugene and Viola Holland West.
In addition to her parents, Ila Mae was preceded in death by her husband, William Casey “Bill” Sutton sister, Delores McDowell, and great-grandson, Felix Graham Sutton.
Ila Mae is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law; Rick and Karen Sutton and Mac and Jeanette Sutton; grandchildren, Jeff Sutton (Morgan), Casey Sutton (Ian Bruce), and Angela Shotwell (Blake); great-grandchildren, Kate Shotwell, Anneliese Shotwell, Deacon Shotwell, Reese Landon Sutton, and Miles Maverick Sutton; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
Ila Mae was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Goldsboro where she was active in many areas of the church. A member of Bridge and Canasta Clubs, she enjoyed the opportunity to play and visit with her friends.
Family was paramount to Ila Mae and she relished in time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She played a pivotal role in the lives of her nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
A service to celebrate Ila Mae’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 28, 2024, in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to family members, Rick and Karen for the love and exceptional care provided to Ila Mae. They would also like to thank the staff of Highlands, Somerset, and Gentiva Hospice.
