Leonard Clarence “L.C.” Pierce

July 30, 2024, 82, Sleepy Creek –

Leonard Clarence “L.C.” Pierce, 82, passed away on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh. L.C. was born in Edgecombe County to the late Clarence and Hazel Pierce on September 11, 1941. In addition to his parents, L.C. was preceded in death by his brothers, Ray Pierce, Glenn Pierce, and Ronald L. Pierce. He was also predeceased by his father-in-law, Aldine Whitfield, and dearly beloved mother-in-law, Eunice Waller Whitfield with whom he shared a special bond.

L.C. graduated in the Class of 1959 from West Edgecombe High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. L.C. later began a long career in banking where he enjoyed a successful career for over 40 years. L.C. retired in 2002 as vice president with Four Oaks Bank and Trust Company.

While serving with Four Oaks Bank and Trust, L.C. was involved in community service as a member of the Central Johnston Rotary Club. In recognition of his many years of service to Rotary International and his community, L.C. was named a Paul Harris Fellow and was sponsored by his nephew, Ron Pierce. His friendship and mentorship changed the lives of those around him.

L.C. could be described as a “renaissance” man, who was accomplished in many of his interests. He was artistic, accomplished as a taxidermist in his younger years, and had a broad knowledge of all things related to agriculture, gardening, and woodworking. Until recent years, L.C. was an avid deer hunter and was a former bass fisherman.

A man of strong faith, L.C. was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church in Goldsboro. In his final days, L.C.’s testimony was in his encouragement to others to “keep the faith”. His family finds comfort in knowing that L.C.’s faith carried him to his eternal home after years of declining health.

A service to celebrate L.C.’s life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 4, 2024, at St. Luke United Methodist Church with Pastor Karl Grant officiating. The family will greet friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. A private interment will be on Monday in the Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.

L.C. is survived by his wife of 44 years, Olivia Whitfield Pierce; son, Andrew Whitfield Pierce; a special nephew, Ron Pierce (Wendy) and sister-in-law, Judy Pierce. On August 16, 1980, he was welcomed with enduring love into the Whitfield family and is survived by brothers-in-law Rex Whitfield (Janet); Doyle Whitfield (Susan); Al Whitfield (Joy Beth); and, Roy Whitfield (Eileen). He is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.
