Donald Ray Thurman, 72, passed away on Thursday, August 1, 2024. Don was born in Lenoir County to the late Donald Ray Thurman and Mildred June Greene Thurman on January 24, 1952. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Kelly Thurman.

As a man who loved the outdoors, a life of truck driving was perfect for Don. Through his long employment, he worked with many companies driving both long-haul and local delivery. He enjoyed the many sights he got to see on the roads and was always amazed by the sunrises and sunsets observed. A God-fearing man, he recognized the beauty of creation and often said no two sunrises or two sunsets were the same. Each was unique and beautiful in its own way.

Don’s life was focused on family, friends, and work. When everything was going well in those three things, Don was a content man.

Friends and family are invited to gather for a time of remembrance, visitation, and celebration from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 9, 2024, at Rouse Funeral Home.

Don is survived by his children, Tiffany Barnes (Chris), John Paul Thurman, and Daniel Thurman-Sharp (Shane); grandchildren, Breanna Barnes (John), Amanda Barnes, and Ryan Barnes; great-grandchildren, Norah and Ellie; grand-dog, Finnley; brother, Tim Thurman (Lana); sister, Amye Thurman; aunt, Matilda Sykes; nieces, Tara Fry and Olivia Neidhart; and special friend, Susan Price.
