Wayne Preparatory Academy Receives $675,000 North Carolina Stronger Connections Grant

Goldsboro, NC – Wayne Preparatory Academy (WPA) is thrilled to announce the award of a $675,000 grant from the North Carolina Stronger Connections Grant program. This significant funding will be instrumental in enhancing the safety and security of the WPA campus, ensuring a safer environment for students, families, and the community.

The North Carolina Stronger Connections Grant, funded by the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act of the 117th Congress, awarded the NC Department of Public Instruction  a total of $29,367,638 to support schools in creating secure learning environments. The successful grant application by Wayne Preparatory Academy highlights the school’s commitment to prioritizing student safety and welfare while maintaining a high standard of academic excellence.

“This grant is a testament to our dedication to providing a secure and supportive learning environment for our students,” said Dr. Tina Hinson, Executive Director. “The funding will allow us to implement comprehensive safety measures that will benefit not only our students but also their families and the broader community.”

The awarded funds will be used to support various security enhancements at Wayne Preparatory Academy High School, Middle School, Elementary School and Central Office Building, including:

  • Upgrading exterior and interior doorways with cloud-based access control systems and advanced locking mechanisms.
  • Installing modern security cameras, detection systems, and multi-situational alarm systems to expand campus monitoring and enhance preventive measures.
  • Implementing threat and emergency management software to facilitate coordinated emergency responses, reunification and improve communication with local first responders.
