Gary Lynn Malpass, 57, a lifelong resident of the Mount Olive area, passed away Monday, August 12, 2024.

Gary is survived by his mother, Julia Coltren Phillips, of Hephzibah, Georgia; his father, Ellis Malpass, Jr., of Morehead City; a grandson, Ayden Hernandez; sisters, Stephanie Hunt and husband, Michael, of Seagrove, Michelle Knipe of Morehead City, and Tina Gathings and husband, Lynn, of Ernul;  brother, Ronnie Malpass and wife, Emily, of Seven Springs; a step-brother, Scotty Glass of Mount Olive; a step-sister, Crystal Holland and husband, Kenny, of Selma; along with several nieces and nephews.

Prior to health ailments, he had been employed with Butterball in its maintenance department.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Paula Summerlin Malpass; a daughter, Codi Lynn Malpass.; his stepmother, Doris Malpass; and a step-brother, David Miller. Gary was raised by his late grandmother, Eula Barwick Malpass, to be one of her own.

His family will remember him quietly as he had requested.
