Nona Best Gray, 94, died peacefully on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by her family. Born in Johnston County on May 15, 1930, she was the daughter of the late John Herman and Myrtle Worley Best.

Mrs. Gray was a longtime member of Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church and the Friendship Sunday School Class.

A service to celebrate her life will be Sunday, August 25, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. at Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church with Pastor Josh Whitfield and Pastor Barry Williamson officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. Internment will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 26, 2024, at Wayne Memorial Park.

Mrs. Gray is survived by her daughter, Darla Raper, and husband, Alan; sons, Cliff Gray and wife, Dianne, Steve Gray and wife, Debbie, and Jeff Gray and wife, Delores; grandchildren, Jennifer Johnson and husband, Kevin, Stephanie Lane and husband, Michael, Ryan Gray, and wife, Stephanie, Hy Gardner, and husband, Clay, Berry Gray, and wife, Crystal, Christopher Gray, and wife, Amanda, Sarah Beth Harris, and husband, Adam, Colby Raper, and wife, Melody, Taylor Gray and wife, Heather, and Marianna Henson and husband, Clint; and twenty great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gray was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Clifford Gray, Sr; a grandson, Brandon Raper; and brothers, Tony Best and Norwood Best.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be given to Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church, 752 Stoney Creek Church Road, Goldsboro, NC 27534.
