Charlie Curtis Smith, age 74, passed away Tuesday evening at his home. Born in Wayne County, NC, he was the son of the late Chester Charlie “Pep” Smith and Sally Beatrice Allen Smith. Charlie was a 1968 graduate of Charles B. Aycock, where was a member of the FFA, a football player, and on the swim team. An avid fisherman, he was always making sure his ATV permit was renewed every January so he could join his fishing buddies on their annual trips to the Outer Banks. He was also a strong Duke Blue Devils fan, enjoyed watching Westerns, and loved feeding “his” fish, birds, squirrels, rabbits, and any other critters in his yard. He was a retired Maintenance Supervisor with Walmart Stores, Inc.
A visitation for family and friends will be held Monday, September 16, 2024, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Beverly Jean Smith; sons, Charlie Lee Smith ( Laurie) and Darrel Curtis Smith (Amy); daughters, Keri Dean (Daniel) and Kimberly Medeiros (Jason); brothers, Tim Smith (Linda) and Glenn Smith (Peggy); sisters, Sandy McCullen (Glenn) and Cindy Stevens (Ed); grandchildren, Katie, Kimberly, Casi, Harley, Emily, Claire, McKinsey, Jacob, Julianna, Kierstin, Vivian, and Meredith “Esmerelda”; great-grandchildren, Abel, Lucas, Siles, Mackenzie, Jayce, Paisleigh “Pretty Girl”, and Kaisyn; as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great-nephews.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Tom Smith (Marie), Judy McBeth (Robert), and Jim Kent Smith; grandson, James Curtis and great-grandson, Jacob “J.J”; his dogs, “Annie Oakley” and “Mongo”.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the funeral home to assist with funeral expenses.
