On Sunday at approximately 10:00 am, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office responded to a stabbing at 107 Derek Drive in Goldsboro.

After arriving on the scene, deputies found a male victim, later identified as 47-year-old John Leslie McGinnis of the residence, suffering from multiple stab wounds to his body.

McGinnis was transported to UNC Health Wayne, where he later died from his injuries.

Detectives with the Sheriff’s Office were called to the scene, and they began their investigation.

During the investigation, it was determined that an altercation occurred between the victim and a roommate named Dylan William Wayne Wheeler.

During the altercation, Wheeler, 19, presented a knife and stabbed McGinnis multiple times.

Wheeler, who was on the scene when deputies arrived, was taken into custody without incident and was charged with an open count of murder.

Wheeler was given no bond.
