GFD Responds to Structure Fire on Monday Night

On Monday at approximately 9:28 p.m., the Goldsboro Fire Department and Wayne County EMS responded to reports of a structure fire in the 500 block of Daisy Street.

911 callers stated that at least one person was injured, and more were possibly inside.

Officers with the Goldsboro Police Department were dispatched to assist. When emergency personnel arrived, they located Jean Wesley Morat, 64, on the front porch of the residence.

Morat was suffering from severe burns.

He was transported to UNC Health Wayne for treatment and was subsequently flown to UNC Chapel Hill for further treatment. Morat’s condition was listed as critical.

The other residents escaped the structure without injury.

The Goldsboro Police Department’s Investigative Services Bureau, Goldsboro Fire Department’s Fire Marshall, the Office of the State Fire Marshall and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation responded to the scene and initiated an investigation.

The investigation showed that the fire was not intentional or criminal in nature.
