WCC’s Boardroom Dedicated in Memory of Trustee Emeritus Keith Stewart

Wayne Community College has officially named its boardroom in memory of Trustee Emeritus Keith Stewart.

The Keith Stewart Boardroom was dedicated before the September regular meeting of the WCC Board of Trustees. Stewart’s family members and friends, WCC trustees, and past and present College employees gathered in the space to reflect on Stewart’s leadership and dedication in serving on the board.

Stewart was appointed to the board in 1993 and served until his death in 2021.

In 2022, the College posthumously named him trustee emeritus for his many years of service, leadership on the board, involvement in community activities, and support for the mission, programs, and constituents of the College.

The naming of the boardroom was made possible by a donation from Gary and Sallie Smith. Gary was Stewart’s college roommate and longtime friend.

During the dedication ceremony, WCC Board Chair Veda McNair shared her memories of serving on the board with Stewart since she was appointed in 2005.

“I credit Keith for being one of the many people who influenced me in my professional life,” she said.

McNair reflected on meetings held in the boardroom where Stewart would listen attentively and offer his insight to other trustees.

“We respected his experience and voice of wisdom on our board,” she said. “It is that spirit that continues to guide this board as we govern this college.”

Stewart’s widow, Lynda, said that her late husband loved the College and would be honored to have this special recognition.

“He absolutely loved serving here. He would be humbled and beyond words,” she said of the dedication.

“He gave his heart and soul to Wayne Community College,” WCC President Patty Pfeiffer said about Stewart. “That long-term service to the College has a direct impact today.”
