Billy Aaron Thornton, 90, entered his heavenly home on Thursday, October 31, 2024, at home surrounded by family. Billy was born in Wayne County to the late Jesse and Maggie Thornton on December 18, 1933. In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Ann Parks Thornton; step-son, Richard Clayton Wise, and sister, Virginia Lancaster.
Billy proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He retired and was a valued employee of Carolina Power and Light Company for many years.
God was always first in Billy’s life, above all else. His church and church family were very important to him. Faith Free Will Baptist Church was home for him and he loved to share the good news of Jesus. Billy also enjoyed the ministry of the Gideons North Camp in Goldsboro.
Devoted to his family, Billy was a constant companion and the best of friends with his wife Ann, who preceded him in death on July 21, 2024.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, in Wayne Memorial Park. The family will greet friends following the service at the cemetery.
Billy is survived by his daughter, Lisa Thornton Cerasi, and husband, Mike of Fuquay Varina; grandchild, Casey Cerasi; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Kay and Bud Waters; niece, Barbara Aycock; and nephews, Carl Edward Lancaster and Jeff Waters.
Flowers are welcome or memorials may be given in his memory to Faith Free Will Baptist Church, 1200 W. Grantham Street, Goldsboro, NC 27530.
