Patricia Marsh Sasser, 92, passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, in Goldsboro, N.C. She was a native of Salisbury, N.C., and the daughter of the late Alonzo Groves Marsh and Virginia Cuthrell Marsh.
Mrs. Sasser was married to the late Patrick Henry Sasser, for fifty-five years. They lived in Goldsboro, where her husband was a general practitioner in medicine for forty-two years.
Mrs. Sasser earned a B.S. in Biology from Salem College in 1955 and graduated from the Bowman Gray School of Medical Technology.
Mother to three children, Mrs. Sasser served on the vestry of St. Stephens Episcopal Church and on the boards of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, Wayne Country Day School, the Red Cross Auxiliary, and the Wayne Medical Auxiliary. She also served as President of The Salvation Army of Goldsboro, and as a Cub Scout den mother.
After her children left home, Mrs. Sasser worked for many years as the office manager of her husband’s practice. Following their retirement in 2000, they enjoyed traveling, visiting family, and playing bridge.
Mrs. Sasser was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick Henry Sasser, her daughter, Virginia Sasser DeLacey, and her sister, Virginia Marsh Arey. She is survived by her sons, Patrick Henry Sasser, Jr. (Lyndia Braswell Sasser) and William Marsh Sasser. Also, her grandchildren, John Patrick DeLacey (Sarah Kirk DeLacey), Virginia DeLacey Lewinsky (Joseph Peter Lewinsky), Patricia McCoy DeLacey, Patrick Bailey Sasser (Cameron Taylor Sasser), Gray Lanier Sasser (Rebecca Edmondson Sasser), and great-grandchildren, Cora Annette DeLacey, Henry Colson Sasser and Bridget Sasser DeLacey.
The family extends its heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Brookdale Country Day Road for their many years of kind friendship and exceptional care and to the wonderful caregivers at Gentiva Hospice.
The memorial service celebrating Patricia’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 200 N. James Street in Goldsboro with the Rev. David Wyly officiating followed by interment in the St. Stephen’s Church columbarium. A reception and time for visitation will follow the service in the parish hall at St. Stephen’s Church.
