UNC Health Wayne has earned its 7h consecutive “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit watchdog. Leapfrog assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on over 30 performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries, and infections, as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent them.
“We are 1 of only 2 hospitals in eastern North Carolina to receive 7 consecutive A’s from the Leapfrog Group,” said Jessie L. Tucker, III President and CEO of UNC Health Wayne. “This achievement reflects the dedication our team brings to patient care each and every day. At UNC Health Wayne, our goal is to approach every patient as if they were the most treasured member of our own family- ensuring they receive the safest, highest-quality care possible. This recognition affirms that commitment, and it drives us to keep raising the bar for our community.”
“As a Board, we are incredibly proud of the hard work and dedication that UNC Health Wayne has invested in achieving this 7th consecutive ‘A’ for quality and safety”, says Harold Brashear, UNC Health Wayne Board Chairman. “This recognition is the result of a focused commitment to excellence, not just in meeting benchmarks, but in continuously improving the experience for our patients. We understand that some in our community may have had less-than-ideal experiences in the past, but we want everyone to know that the hospital has made significant strides. Today, the entire team at UNC Health Wayne remains focused on ensuring that every patient receives the highest standard of care, and we believe our community can feel confident in the services and support they will receive here.”
“Achieving an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade is a significant accomplishment for UNC Health Wayne,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “It reflects enormous dedication to your patients and their families, and your whole community should be proud. I extend my congratulations to UNC Health Wayne, its leadership, clinicians, staff and volunteers for their tireless efforts to put patients first.”
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade stands as the only hospital ratings program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day in the United States. This program is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
