Goldsboro City Councilmember Chris Boyette was elected as the new chairman of the Highway 70/I-42 Corridor Commission during a meeting held Nov. 21 at the Maxwell Center.
Boyette has served on the commission since 2013 and was vice chair for the last two years.
The Highway 70/I-42 Corridor Commission is comprised of appointed members from each member county.
The commission focuses on enhancing transportation and infrastructure along the Highway 70/I-42 corridor, improving regional connectivity, and supporting economic development.
The late Mayor Chuck Allen was one of the original members of the commission, and the Goldsboro section was the first to be completed.
“Without his initial involvement, the new bypass and interstate probably wouldn’t have ever been developed this fast,” Boyette said. “It’s been an honor to be a member for the last 11 years, and I look forward to continuing to serve, I know Chuck would be happy to know I followed him to eventually serve as Chairman like he did.”
