Judy Carol Crumpler Pate

December 12, 2024, 81, Pikeville —

Judy Carol Crumpler Pate, 81, was welcomed into her eternal home on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at The Ridge in Pikeville. Born on October 14, 1943, in Wayne County, she was the daughter of the late Raymond David Crumpler, Sr., and Mary Elizabeth Parrish Crumpler.

Judy was a member of Pikeville Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church. She was a dedicated member of the church choir, ladies’ auxiliary, and Countryside outreach ministry, and served as a cherished Sunday School teacher. She took that responsibility seriously and started planning on Sunday afternoons for the next week’s lesson. A steadfast prayer warrior, Judy dedicated countless hours to praying for her children, church family, and friends. She believed in the power of prayer and in her quiet moments, would kneel, lifting her requests and praise to God, knowing that He was listening.

Most importantly, Judy was a devout reader of her Bible. Each day, she committed time to read and study the scriptures, seeking wisdom and guidance. She read the entire Bible through many times. Judy encouraged everyone she met to draw closer to God. Her life truly reflected her testimony and was a living testament to the Christian faith.

Judy often enjoyed time in her yard and taking walks with her neighbor. She enjoyed nurturing her plants as lovingly as she did her family. Everything she planted bloomed and flourished. She believed that tending to her garden was much like raising her children, both required patience, hard work, and lots of love.

In addition to her love for gardening, Judy tended to her neighbor’s chickens. Each day, she would lovingly feed them scraps from the kitchen. Judy was more than just a hard worker; she was the heart of her family. Her interests created a life full of love, laughter, and growth. Judy embraced each moment, teaching all around her the importance of dedication and love of God.

Judy is survived by her daughter, Amanda Barnes and husband, Ronnie; her son, Chad Pate and wife, Tracey; and daughter-in-law Donna Pate; sisters, Virginia Starnes, Joan Brogden and Linda Pike; grandchildren, Joshua Pate (Stephanie), Anderson Barnes (Danielle), Adam Pate (Jessica), Courtney Carr (Keanu), and Bradley Pate (Skylar); step-grandchildren, Brittany Ellisor and Ashley Ellisor and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Judy was preceded in death by her son, Joey Pate; brother, David Crumpler and wife, Joyce; and her brothers-in-law, Rodney Brogden and Tom Starnes.

The family will receive friends during a time of visitation on Monday, December 16, 2024 from 5:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Pikeville Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church. A service to honor Judy’s life will be held at 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary with her grandsons, Anderson Barnes and Adam Pate, and Pastor Mark Whitfield officiating. Interment will be held on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Evergreen Cemetery in Princeton.
