Betty Jean Satterfield Gurley

Betty Jean Satterfield Gurley

December 16, 2024, 82, Goldsboro —

Betty Jean Satterfield Gurley, 82, went to be with her Lord on Monday, December 16, 2024, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center. Betty Jean was born in Lenoir County on December 31, 1941, to the late William Edward Satterfield and Sybil Lee Benton Satterfield. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Lawrence Gurley; and brothers, William L. Satterfield, Fred L. Satterfield, and Benton Satterfield.

Betty Jean married the love of her life, David, and they made quite the home together. Raising two children, Betty Jean loved being a wife and mother. She wanted to make sure her husband and children were loved and cared for. Betty Jean also spent many years with Dorothy’s Ruffle Curtains in Goldsboro as a sales representative and installer. She was a valued part of the team and enjoyed her time working alongside her coworkers.

With a personality large enough to fill any space, Betty Jean could easily strike up a conversation with anyone. Never one to meet a stranger, she’d often take time to stop and speak a kind word to those she met.

One of Betty Jean’s greatest joys was having her family around her. She loved her children, son-in-law, and daughter-in-law. And there was something extra special about her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. There wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do for them.

She spent many hours outside simply appreciating the day and all that God had provided. Some of Betty Jean’s most treasured times were spent sharing shots on the golf course at Lane Tree Golf Club with her husband and friends. And she later enjoyed the opportunity to go bowling and participate in a Monday night league.

After the death of her husband, Betty Jean began worshiping at David’s home church, Pikes Crossroads Pentecostal Holiness Church.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 21, 2024 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. in the Family Life Center of Pikes Crossroads Church, 2494 Pikeville-Princeton Road, Pikeville. A service celebrating Betty Jean’s life will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Charles Boyd officiating. The interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

She is survived by her children, Teresa Gurley Shearin and husband, Grover Todd Shearin and David Edward Gurley and wife, Amy Goehring Gurley; five grandchildren, Stuart Charles Shearin and wife, Jenny, William Todd Shearin, Jackson David Shearin and wife, Lori Ann, David Thomas Gurley and Avery Elizabeth Gurley; and four great-grandchildren, Addy Mae Shearin, Skylar Jean Shearin, Charles Finley Shearin and Palmer Grey Shearin. She is also survived by her brothers, Kenneth Satterfield and wife, Kay, Charles Satterfield and wife, Margy, and Norwood Satterfield and wife, Joyce; sisters-in-law, Linda Satterfield, Peggy Sasser, Anne E. Gurley, and Joan Smith and husband, Randy.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be given in her memory to Pikes Crossroads Pentecostal Holiness Church, 2494 Pikeville-Princeton Road, Pikeville, NC 27863, or to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, NC 27534.

Services are entrusted to Seymour Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
