Wayne County, NC – A man died in a single-vehicle crash on Christmas night in Wayne County, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

The accident occurred at approximately 7:15 p.m. at the intersection of Parkstown Road and North Beston Road. Troopers reported that 23-year-old Gustavo Morqueco of La Grange was driving east in a Hyundai passenger car at a high rate of speed when he lost control on a curve. The vehicle veered off the road and struck a tree.

Authorities say Morqueco, who was not wearing a seatbelt, died at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
