Brenda Faye Wetherington Merritt, 69, passed away in the early morning hours of Monday, January 6, 2025, at her home in Kinston.

She had been an in-home care provider for many ailing individuals.

Brenda is survived by a daughter, Renee Teachey and husband, William, of Kinston; a son, David Peyton, Jr. of Kinston; a brother, Jesse W. Wetherington, Jr. and husband, Frank, of Virginia Beach, Va.; a sister, Shirley Mendez and husband, Jose, of Snow Hill; several grandchildren to include Ashley and Katlynn Peyton.

She was preceded in death by a son, William Lannie Peyton, her parents, Jesse Walter Wetherington, Sr. and Doris Helen Arnette Wetherington; and a brother, Jamie Ray Wetherington.

Brenda’s family will have visitation at Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive on Wednesday, January 8, from 6 until 8 p.m.  Funeral services will be held at Tyndall on Thursday, January 9, at 2 p.m., with burial to follow in the Pate Cemetery.
