HT Pate Grantham, age 83, passed away early Saturday morning, January 11, 2025 at his home. Born September 15, 1941 in Wayne County, he was the son of the late Carl Leon Grantham and Lela Pate Grantham.
After graduating from Goldsboro High School, HT served in the United States Army and the United States Air Force and was a Vietnam Veteran. At the end of his service, he worked as a long distance truck driver and after spending many years on the road and wanting to spend more time with family, he began working with and later retired from Bartlett Milling Company. Needing a little something to occupy his time in retirement, HT found his way to Frema Motors in Goldsboro where he worked part-time as a transport driver. It was here where he developed many wonderful friendships that he so greatly cherished. In addition to his parents, HT was preceded in death by his sisters Eleanor Allen, and Alice Faye Streetman, and brother Carl Ray Grantham.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 18, 2025 at 2:00pm at Union Grove Original Free Will Baptist Church, 1283 Union Grove Church Road, Fremont. The Rev. John Massengill will officiate. There will be no formal viewing however, the family will receive friends following the service at the church and other times at the home. HT is survived by his wife of 61 years, Nell Mitchell Grantham; children Leon Grantham (Tammy) of Pine Level, Reggie Grantham (Mary Jo) of Kenly, Vanessa Stanley (Kenneth) of Fremont, and Brady Grantham (fiancée Susie) of Kenly; grandchildren Corey Grantham (Dakota), Wyatt Grantham, Joey Grantham (Jamie), Matthew Grantham (fiancée Tia), Hunter Grantham (Olivia), and London Grantham (fiancé Waverly); great-grandchildren Peyton Joseph Grantham, Cheyenne Jo Grantham, McCoy HT Grantham, and Scottie Jrue Grantham. HT was also blessed with special family members Samantha, Caleb, Kaitlyn, Camden, Ayla, and Makenna as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family of HT would like to express their appreciation and thanks to all who have shown them love, sympathy, and kindness.
