James Kenneth “Rabbit” Womble

James Kenneth “Rabbit” Womble, age 73, passed away at Wayne UNC Healthcare on Sunday, January 12th. Born in Wayne County, he was the son of the late Billy Maylon Womble and Betty Ailene Hartley Womble and brother of the late Patricia Ann Upton. “Rabbit” was Veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of the Thoroughfare Fire Department and Grantham Fire Department for 20 years. He was a member of The Brotherhood Motorcycle Club and he loved to fish and hunt, along with being well known as a “Jack of All Trades”.

A service to celebrate “Rabbit’s” life will be held on Friday, January 17th at 4:00 pm at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home with Pastor Kelvin Gurley and Mr. Rudy Peedin officiating. The family will greet friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.

“Rabbit” is survived by his wife of 44 years, Joan Womble; his sons, Jeremiah Joseph Womble and wife, Wendy, Jonathan Daniel Womble and wife, Dawn; his brother, Johnny Ray Womble and wife, Patricia; his sisters, Kathy Rose Hughes and husband, Bob, Gerri Lynn Ma’ilo and husband, Peter; and his grandchildren, Chase Summerlin, Wyatt Womble, Lacie Womble, Turner Womble and Teagan Womble.
