Suspect Shot in Apparent Breaking and Entering on Sunday Evening

On Sunday, at approximately 5:48 p.m., the Goldsboro Police Department responded to a ShotSpotter alert in the 600 block of W. Oak Street. 

While investigating the ShotSpotter alert, Deshaun Jamarion James, 30, arrived at UNC Health Wayne suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. 

During the course of the investigation, it was determined that James was shot during the incident in the 600 Block of West Oak Street. 

Preliminary indications from the investigation determined James was suspected of breaking and entering to terrorize a residence in the 600 block of W. Oak Street and the shooting was a result of self-defense. 

The Crime Scene Unit and Investigations were contacted and responded. 

James was subsequently transported to ECU Medical Center for treatment and was listed in critical condition. 

Neither of the victims of the breaking and entering to terrorize, Keyantae Toomer 26, and Tyniesha Young, 26, were harmed. 

At least one of the victims and James are acquaintances

The investigation is ongoing.
