WCC Instructor Presents at AI Conference

Wayne Community College Mathematics Instructor Katie Holloman recently presented at an artificial intelligence (AI) conference held by the North Carolina Community College System in Asheboro.

The conference provided a platform for discussing the evolving role of AI in Career and Technical Education (CTE).

Holloman’s presentation, titled “24/7/365 Personal Tutor,” explored how generative AI can enhance student learning by fostering critical thinking, dialogue-driven engagement, and personalized instruction.

The presentation featured the AI Socratic tutor prompt for students, student feedback, interactive demonstrations, and a look into additional AI tools for the classroom.

Attendees engaged in discussions on implementation strategies, utilization techniques, and the future of AI in education.

“Generative AI has the power to revolutionize how we approach assisting our students in comprehending our course concepts,” said Holloman. “By leveraging AI as a Socratic tutor, we can encourage deeper inquiry and independent thinking in students, preparing them for the complexities of the modern workforce.”

Holloman was one of four individuals who presented at the conference.
