Resident Injured in Sunday Night Fire

 At approximately 8:43 p.m. on Sunday, Goldsboro Fire Department units responded to a reported structure fire at 108 S. Slocumb St.

Upon arrival at 8:45 p.m., crews encountered heavy flames coming from the front of the residence.

A total of five fire apparatus and a command vehicle were deployed, and the vehicles were staffed by 19 personnel.

Firefighters immediately initiated a search and began an exterior fire attack due to the intensity of the flames.

Exposure lines were also established to safeguard the neighboring structure at 106 S. Slocumb St. The fire was successfully brought under control by 9:16 p.m.

Goldsboro Police Department and Wayne County EMS also assisted at the scene. The occupant of 108 S. Slocumb was located at a nearby residence, suffering from burn injuries.

Firefighters provided first aid until Wayne County EMS arrived.

The individual was transported to UNC Health Wayne before being transferred to the UNC Burn Center for further treatment.

The residence at 108 S. Slocumb St. was determined to be a total loss; however, the estimated dollar damage has not yet been determined.

Minor damage was reported to the neighboring structure.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Goldsboro Fire Department.
