The Arts Council of Wayne County is proud to announce the awarding of the Creative Spark Grant to three dedicated visual arts teachers from Wayne County Public Schools.

This initiative, designed to enrich visual art education, provides each selected teacher with $400.00 to supplement every day classroom supplies, special projects, supplemental resources, and enrichment opportunities to enhance the learning environment for students at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.

The Creative Spark Grant was made available for all Wayne County Public Schools visual art instructors with the intention of empowering art educators by addressing resource gaps and sparking creativity in the classroom.

With this funding, teachers can purchase essential materials—ranging from basic supplies such as paper, paint, brushes, and markers to items for special projects and enrichment activities like art field trips or digital resources.

By ensuring that teachers have access to the necessary tools, this grant helps create dynamic, project-based learning
experiences that broaden students’ artistic horizons and deepen their appreciation for the arts.

The recipients of the Creative Spark Grant are:

Pamela Darrow: Eastern Wayne Elementary School

Sedudji Tayviah: Greenwood Middle School

Shyla Sutton: Eastern Wayne High School

Each recipient chose to use the funds to enhance their classroom supplies, ensuring their students have the
best opportunities for artistic success.

The Arts Council of Wayne County is excited to support our local educators and looks forward to seeing the positive impact these resources will have on our students’ artistic journeys.

The Arts Council will be hosting a reception to honor these 3 teachers from 1 p.m. to 2 on May 17,
at 139 West Walnut Street.
