On January 28, officers of the Goldsboro Police Department responded to a report of a subject trespassing and threatening employees at The Grand at Day Point.
Upon arrival, officers encountered the individual and initiated a detention; multiple officers were involved in the process. As a result of the interaction, the individual was placed under arrest and charges were filed.
Due to the nature of the incident, an Internal Affairs investigation was conducted in accordance with department policy.
The investigation included eyewitness accounts and body camera footage from multiple officers. It determined that the use of force during the incident was consistent with department policy and legal standards.
However, the investigation identified policy violations related to professional presence and communication. As a result, four officers received disciplinary action.
The Goldsboro Police Department does not condone the use of excessive force or officer misconduct.
The department remains committed to ongoing training and professional development and actively reviews and enhances training, tactics, and resources.
Officers must be equipped with the skills necessary to safely restrain, detain, and, when necessary, make arrests in a manner that prioritizes safety for both the officer and the detainee.
The Goldsboro Police Department and the City of Goldsboro are dedicated to fostering a safe and effective policing environment for both officers and the community.
The foundation of effective law enforcement lies in continuous improvement and adaptation.
