Health Care Worker Charged with Elderly Exploitation in Wayne County

WAYNE COUNTY, N.C. – A 24-year-old Grifton woman has been arrested and charged with three counts of elderly exploitation following an investigation by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.

According to authorities, a report was first filed on March 3, 2025, after a caretaker noticed money missing from the wallet of a person under their care. A surveillance camera was installed and later captured the suspect—Latavia Sharie Glonesya Brown, a healthcare worker—removing money from the wallet during her visits. A second report was filed on March 12, confirming the findings.

Arrest warrants were issued on March 24, and Brown was taken into custody by deputies in Greene County on March 26. She faces three felony counts of exploiting an elderly or disabled adult. Her bond was set at $15,000.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office emphasized the importance of reporting suspicious activity and remains committed to protecting vulnerable populations in the community.
