April 7, 2025, 78, La Grange —
May 17, 1946 – April 7, 2025
Larry Allen Stallings, 78, passed away on Monday, April 7, 2025. Larry was born in Lenoir County to the late Roy Allen and Ida Estelle Barwick Stallings on May 17, 1946. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Ruby Davis; and brothers, Elmer Stallings and Roger Stallings.
It didn’t take but a few moments in Larry’s presence before you learned that he was quite the character. Ever witty and full of mischief, Larry loved to laugh and see others laughing. He brought joy into even the worst circumstances and was a constant delight for those who were in his company.
Always ready for the next vacation, Larry enjoyed trips to the North Carolina Zoo, the NC State Fair, and hundreds of journeys to Pigeon Forge, TN. Enjoying the beauty of the mountains and the entertainment found in numerous shows, the best part of vacation was always the company with whom he shared the time. For over thirty years, Larry and Delores made Pigeon Forge their favored vacation spot, and relished the opportunity to bring family along.
While Larry loved a good trip, he was suited just as well spending time at home. Working in the yard in times when he was able, or sitting under the carport enjoying the breeze as people passed by on the road, he found contentment in every day and every season. An avid football fan, Larry could be found on the sofa watching the Colts play every time a game was on air, and he was a faithful Tarheel fan through seasons of success and loss.
With Delores, Larry found a wonderful wife, faithful companion, and best friend. Where you saw one, you’d likely see the other. Together they enjoyed outings at local restaurants, but Larry’s tastebuds were never more satisfied than when Delores turned on the stove. Everything she cooked for him was top notch in his book, but his favorite meal of fried pork chops, ‘maters and rice, and string beans was simply beyond compare. With a great love of Delores’s cooking and a genuine appreciation for his family, he loved Thanksgiving Day best of all, for all of his family was gathered under one roof. There, he could thank God for each of his blessings right before his eyes.
A service of love and remembrance will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 10, 2025 at Rouse Funeral Home. The family will receive friends in the hour prior to service. Committal will follow at Fairview Cemetery, La Grange.
Larry is survived by his wife of forty-five years, Delores Radford Stallings; daughter, Pam Leavy and husband Billy and Jennifer Carter and husband, Brett; grandsons, Johnathan Stallings, Garrett Allen Marchant and wife, Lauren (who was loved like a granddaughter), and Colby Marchant; great-grandson, Oliver Lee Stallings; sister, Janet Powell; special niece, Terri Gulino; special nephews, Dewey Powell, Jr. and Corey Powell; along with many other nieces, nephews, and extended family.
