Carol Speight Howell, 75, passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at her home. Born in Anson County on March 9, 1950, she was the daughter of the late James William and Gladys Louise Evans Speight.

In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony Wayne Howell and sister, Shirley Jones.

Carol is survived by her daughter, Charlene McDaniel Frizzelle and husband, James of Kinston; son, Vernon Christopher McDaniel and wife, Ana of Texas; brothers, Jimmy Speight and Donny Speight; grandchildren, Justin Himes, Kristin Himes, Brandon McDaniel, Kelsey Himes, Ashlee McDaniel, Liam McDaniel, and Luna McDaniel; great-grandchildren, Caleb, Kimberly, Olivia, Dakota, Mattalynn, and Jackson; and her long-time friend, former husband, and the father of her children, Vernon McDaniel.

Carol worked for many years in Emergency Room registration at Wayne Memorial Hospital and later retired having worked for 13 years as an outpatient registrar at Wilson Memorial Hospital.

A graveside service to celebrate Carol’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 10, 2025 at the Stantonsburg Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at Seymour Funeral Home.
