Tax Extension–You Have Time to do Your Taxes

Tax Extension–You Have Time to do Your Taxes

Statewide — Taxpayers in some southeastern states have been provided with more time to submit their 2024 federal tax returns, thanks to a recent deadline extension by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Due April 15 originally, the new deadline is now May 1, 2025, for those in the areas impacted by Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton.

The relief, granted by the IRS in October 2024, is to residents and businesses of Georgia, Alabama, Florida, North Carolina, and South Carolina. The relief provision postpones both tax filing and payment deadlines.

Other than individual income tax returns, the relief also applies to:

  • Calendar year 2024 partnership and S Corporation returns due on March 17
  • Quarterly estimated tax payments due on April 15
  • Calendar year 2024 corporate and fiduciary income tax returns and payments, also April 15 due

The IRS encourages taxpayers in the disaster areas to go to the agency’s official disaster relief webpage for all the information on eligibility and instructions.
