April 13, 2025, 81, Goldsboro —
George William Gardner, 81, passed away suddenly at his home on Sunday, April 13, 2025.
Born in Wayne County on September 30, 1943, George was the son of the late George Emmitt Gardner and Lula McKeel Gardner. A man of quiet strength, integrity, and devotion, George lived a life rooted in service, family, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of nature.
For 42 years, George was a dedicated route salesman for Canteen Vending Company. He was also a valued employee of Carlie C’s in Goldsboro, having been with the store since its opening. His commitment to his work was matched only by his long-standing dedication to his community. George proudly served as a volunteer firefighter with the Patetown Volunteer Fire Department from 1958, offering decades of selfless service and camaraderie to his fellow firefighters and neighbors.
An outdoorsman at heart, George found true happiness when working outside—tending the land, feeling the sun on his back, and enjoying the peace of the natural world. Yet, above all, it was his family that brought him the greatest joy. Whether gathered around the table or spending a quiet afternoon together, time with loved ones was what George cherished most.
Left to treasure his memory are his beloved wife, Mary Ann Jackson Gardner; daughter, Cathy Shearin and husband, John; son, John Gardner and wife, Deana; and three adored grandchildren, Mason Shearin, Ashleigh Gardner, and Jonathan Gardner.
A graveside service to honor George’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 18, 2025, at Wayne Memorial Park with Rev. Drew Hill officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery and at other times at the home of John and Deana Gardner, 3877 Hwy 111 North, Pikeville, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in George’s memory to the Patetown Volunteer Fire Department, 3463 NC Hwy 111 North, Goldsboro, NC 27534.
Arrangements are entrusted to Seymour Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
