April 16, 2025, 92, Asheville —
Robert Webb Montague, 92, a native of Wayne County who moved to Asheville, NC later in life, peacefully slipped the bonds of earth on April 16, 2025 and was reunited with his wife Nan in their heavenly home. Though he shied away from being recognized as such, Bob truly was a loving, dedicated husband and father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and generous friend to countless people.
Bob proudly served in the United States Army in Germany during the Korean War. He was a humble, principled man who gave freely of his time and talents to those around him during his long, happy life. He was always willing to help anyone in need, whether it involved building a contraption in his workshop or handing a few dollars to someone down on their luck. Bob, however, was not willing to let Nan get the cards she needed when playing Liverpool Rummy, much to her consternation.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Nan, his daughter Debbie, his parents Ira and Polly Montague, his in-laws Alice and William Barnes, his brother, Ira Montague, Jr., and his devoted cat companion, Kirby. He is survived by his daughter Terri Moody and husband Allen, and his son Rob Montague and partner Greg Lisenbee. Bob also was loved by grandchildren Jeff Green, John Green, Brianna Radford, Kait Radford, Allena Moody, Rachel Moody and great-grandchildren Preston Smilack, James Green, Buck Green, Reagan Green, Webb Green and Lucian Radford. Survivors also include nieces and nephews he loved dearly: Howard Montague, Becky Weeks, Linda Blackley, Vanessa Murray, Chip Barnes and Kim Clifton. The family also would like to recognize Jennifer and Michael Keeney who unselfishly gave of their time, love and attention to Bob in the last few years, bringing him much joy.
Bob asked that no formal services to be held, but instead for friends and family to spend time reminiscing over the good times shared with him and Nan over the years. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Asbury United Methodist Church, 171 Beaverdam Road, Asheville, NC 28804; Salem United Methodist Church, 2706 Salem Church Road, Goldsboro, NC 27530; or Brother Wolf Animal Rescue, P.O.
