Community Blood Drive Set For April 10

Wayne UNC Health Care will host a Community Blood Drive in partnership with the County of Wayne and The Blood Connection Friday, April 10, at the Farm Credit Farmers Market at the Maxwell Center. The Maxwell Center is located at 3114 Wayne Memorial Drive in Goldsboro.

“Donating blood products is essential to community health, and the need for blood is constant,” said Wayne UNC Health Care President & CEO Janie Jaberg. “All blood donated at this Community Blood Drive will remain in our community.”

The community is encouraged to participate in the drive while practicing social distancing by remaining in their vehicles until it is their time to donate. Please review and follow these guidelines for blood donors:

  • Potential donors who are on certain types of medications like antibiotics or blood thinners will not be able to give blood.
  • Staff will check for fever and ask screening questions to ensure positive overall health.
  • Donors must be 17 or older; 16 year olds can donate with parental consent.
  • Donors are asked not to bring minors to the blood drive site. They will not be able to stay  in the car during blood donation.

“We are taking extra precautionary measures to ensure donation sites are clean and safe places to donate blood,” said Wayne UNC Manager of Digital & Community Relations, Brittani Schultze-Gardner. “We encourage those who are feeling healthy to donate now and encourage others to do the same.”

Blood supplies are currently sufficient for Wayne County, but the need for blood products could increase as the COVID-19 pandemic continues.

Donors can save time and ensure social distancing and limited interaction by making an appointment online. Appointments are available from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
