Goldsboro Police Respond to Thursday Morning Shooting

On Thursday at approximately 8:34 a.m., officers with the Goldsboro Police Department responded to a ShotSpotter alert in the 900 block of Hugh Street.
Shortly after responding, officers located the victim, Aaron D. Smith II, 23, in the public vehicular area near a parked vehicle. Smith was suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. read more »

Incident on Capps Bridge Road Leaves Suspect Dead

PRINCETON – At 3:06 this afternoon, Wayne County 911 received a call from an individual at 219 Capps Bridge Road in Princeton in reference to a suspicious armed individual at their residence.
After arriving, deputies were approached by a male suspect armed with a shotgun. Verbal commands were given to the suspect and he did not comply. After raising the shotgun and ignoring verbal commands, the suspect sustained a gunshot wound from deputies on the scene. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene and no identification is available at this time.
This incident, along with the use of force, is being investigated. The SBI is also now on the scene.

Sunday Evening Crash Causes Fatality

On Aug. 13 at approximately 6:58 p.m., the Goldsboro Police Department responded to a traffic crash at the intersection of E. Elm Street and S. Andrews Avenue.

Upon arriving on the scene, officers discovered that a 29-year-old man, Marquis Jah-El Dawson, operating a 2017 Kawasaki dirt bike traveling eastbound on Elm Street struck the side of a black 2021 Toyota SUV driven by a 53-year-old woman traveling southbound on S. Andrews Avenue. Dawson was pronounced deceased on the scene by EMS personnel.read more »

Traffic Checkpoint Leads to Pair of Arrests

On August 5, members of the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office DWI Task Force were assisting at a traffic checkpoint when a vehicle approached with controlled substances in plain view.

After the vehicle was pulled off the roadway, the occupants threw a firearm from the vehicle. The firearm was recovered and an additional firearm was located inside of the vehicle.read more »

Residents throughout Wayne County are being encouraged to lock their vehicles and remove all valuables as break-ins have increased in recent weeks.
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Department issued a Code Red on Aug. 3 encouraging residents to keep their vehicles locked and remove valuables. The increase in break-ins has been spread throughout the county and difficult for law enforcement to narrow down to one specific area. read more »

Sunday Morning Shooting Leaves 8-Year-Old Injured

A shooting in Goldsboro early Sunday morning left an 8-year-old injured.
At 6:18 a.m., Goldsboro Police Department A-Shift officers, along with Wayne County EMS and Goldsboro Fire, were dispatched to 117 Astor Ct. in reference to the report of a shooting.
Once on-scene, a 8-year-old juvenile was found suffering from a gunshot wound to the left lower leg. The juvenile was transported to UNC Health Wayne and then transferred to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville for further treatment of his injury.
Goldsboro Police Investigations Division was contacted. The incident remains under investigation.
